"Real" - Reality Television

Whether its a politician telling carefully crafted campaign lies, tabloid journalism, professional wrestling or a "reality" producer selling a show as "real" when its obviously fake there is an insatiable appetite out there for make-believe. Any good producer knows that the public generaly shruggs their shoulders, yawns and buys it anyway. Its "entertainment," which is all well and good exept when they say it's "real" and nothing could be further from the truth. Some shows regularly shoot 300 hours for every hour aired and with that much footage you can make-up just about any story in editing, others have crews that specialize in recreating scenes to make them look like they were shot in foreign lands, dating show winners and contestants are routinely rigged. I know these things because I hire the same editors, cameramen, and production managers who work on the shows. If you want to see what a "real" Reality show looks like, check out the "PINKS, Lose the race, lose your ride," show on Speed Channel...begins airing in July....see the trailer on the web site...http://www.pinks.tv/ This show is shot over a two hour period with multiple cameras. What ever happens is what ends up in the show. No retakes, no coaching, no rehearsals, it's real. Someone loses their vehicle in each episode. It's the first show I know of where someone actually loses something of value rather than win a $1 Million, a new mom, a new house, a husband, a make over, a job with a tycoon or several hundred pounds of fat!

Keep it real!
